Our ranch is truly a family
owned and operated Ranch. Lisa and I along with our children Josh and
Renee work as a team on a daily basis. Each of us has our own talents
and interests and together we get the job done. The past generations
have allowed us the freedom to move forward in the direction we feel is
the best for us.
Over the last 10 years we have become more and more concerned with the
sustainability of farming. This is what caused us to start searching for
a better way to do things, a sustainable approach to agriculture that
would ensure the long term environmental health and profitability of our
farm.
Modern conventional agriculture is very dependent on massive inputs of
synthetic fertilizer, pesticides, and fuel. If your true goal is
sustainability you have to find a system of agriculture that reduces
your reliance on outside inputs. Organic crop production addresses the
use of fertilizer and chemicals but still requires large amounts of fuel
and still exposes the soil to wind and water erosion.
Livestock production in a grass based system is the most environmentally
sustainable system of agriculture we have found. Done right it allows
you to improve your soil and greatly reduce your reliance on fossil
fuel. Using horses as much as possible instead of tractors and quads is
one of the ways we have chosen to reduce our fossil fuel consumption.
I feel that the meat we produce is among the greenest and most
sustainable food products you can buy. Our animals are raised in a
LOW-STRESS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT with a attention to detail that produces
a consistent, high quality, and healthy product.
